Using Your HSA or FSA to Pay for CPAP Supplies

If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA), your CPAP supplies are almost certainly eligible expenses. This means you can use pre-tax dollars to pay for the filters, cushions, tubing, and accessories you already need — saving you 20 to 35 percent depending on your tax bracket.

What CPAP items are HSA/FSA eligible?

The IRS classifies CPAP equipment and supplies as qualified medical expenses. This includes:

  • CPAP machines and accessories
  • Replacement mask cushions and headgear
  • Disposable and reusable filters
  • Heated tubing
  • Humidifier chambers
  • Cleaning supplies (wipes, sprays, sanitizers)
  • CPAP pillows designed for mask wearers
  • Travel accessories (bags, battery packs, distilled water packets)

Every product on Desert Breathe is HSA/FSA eligible.

How to pay with your HSA or FSA

Most HSA and FSA accounts come with a debit card that works like any other card at checkout. Simply use your HSA/FSA card as your payment method when you place your order. The transaction processes the same way as a regular purchase.

If your plan requires receipts for reimbursement instead of a dedicated card, save your Desert Breathe order confirmation email — it includes the itemized list of products and amounts you need for your claim.

FSA deadline reminder

Unlike HSAs, FSA funds typically expire at the end of your plan year (some plans offer a short grace period or allow a small carryover). If you have FSA dollars left to spend before your deadline, stocking up on CPAP supplies is one of the smartest ways to use them. Filters, wipes, and cushions are items you will need regardless — buying ahead means your money doesn't go to waste.

Do I need a prescription?

For CPAP accessories like cushions, filters, tubing, and cleaning supplies — no prescription is needed to purchase or to use HSA/FSA funds. For a CPAP machine itself, a prescription from a physician is required both for purchase and for HSA/FSA reimbursement.
